untitled (naming conventions)
is a minimalist adventure into questioning how text and symbols within the naming convention of a work affect and engender the listener’s experience of said piece. It is an exercise in becoming both aware of the influence of text, as well as one in cognitive and experiential flexibility.
This work consists truly of one track (please see below), yet will ask listeners to engage in different listening perspectives while being influenced by each independent naming convention. Some of the naming conventions might come off as arbitrary for one listener, while in others they might stir an emotion affixed to a memory. Each naming convention thus acts as an impromptu score or trigger.
The track and the “album”’s content is a simple recording, in which multiple mundane events transpire. The track is "nothing special", yet may be imbued with various meanings, if the concept of this album is accepted and exercised. To follow in long lineage of experimental musicians and their striving to break both boundaries and expectations within musical canons, this work asserts the notion that listening and the experience of a given piece constitutes 50% of the piece itself.
